We keep our fingers crossed for our own: the Beijing Olympics are starting today

The Beijing Winter Olympics will open today. The live broadcast from the opening started at 2 pm Latvian time.

A total of 57 athletes have gone to the Beijing Olympic Games to defend Latvia’s name in 11 sports.

Even before the official opening ceremony in Beijing, the athletes’ competitions in the Winter Olympics started on Wednesday with a curling mixed race.

The so-called “Water Cube“, where the 2008 Summer Olympics took place, now houses a curling arena and hosted the first four games on Wednesday.

Spectators who have received special invitations to the games, as tickets for the events are not sold, sat in the stands.

The British and Swedish mixed curling duo were the first to start the Olympic Games, winning the British pair with a 9: 5 victory.

The US duo defeated the Australian team 6: 5, while the Norwegian and Czech and Chinese and Swiss duo played in the additional end with 7: 6, defeating the Norwegian and Chinese curling players.

The Olympic curling competition will continue on Thursday, as well as the qualification in the freestyle ski mogul discipline for men, women’s hockey tournament group games, as well as training in tobogganing, spring jumping and downhill skiing.
