Werder is sticking with their manager! Frank Baumann (46) has extended his expiring contract until the summer of 2024.
The extension had been hinted at in recent weeks and is not a big surprise. Baumann has been in contact with the supervisory board for a long time. Now the final and unanimous decision!
Supervisory Board boss Marco Fuchs (59): “For us, the key question in the process that has now been completed was: What strategy is Werder pursuing in the sporting area and what does the medium to long-term plan look like? And here, based on an uncompromising analysis of the current situation, Frank has shown over the past few months that he has developed a clear plan and has already launched much of it. That is why we decided in favor of him unanimously and with full conviction.”
The sporting upturn of the last few weeks (seven wins in a row) should not have played a major role in the decision. In addition to Boss Fuchs, board member Florian Weiß was also involved in the negotiations.
Baumann was heavily criticized, especially after being relegated to the Bundesliga. But the supervisory board is counting on Baumann turning things around with Werder.
Weiß emphasizes: “Even taking into account Frank’s critical assessment due to the relegation, after intensive analysis we have come to the conclusion that he will continue to develop Werder Bremen and successfully position him independently in the long term.”
Baumann himself is grateful to be able to stay on board. Werder’s manager: “I appreciate the trust placed in me all the more and look forward to continued constructive and critical support from the supervisory board. I still have a lot of energy and passion to lead Werder into a sportingly more successful future together with my managing director colleagues and the entire team as well as all employees.
