The case of Kamila Valieva has negatively marked the first days of the Beijing Winter Olympics. The 15-year-old Russian, after winning gold in ice skating, was prevented from collecting her metal because, during the test, the news broke that she had given doping positive during a competition held in December in St. Petersburg. After a long bureaucratic process (still alive), the athlete will be able to continue in the Games and compete, despite the fact that she will not be able to collect any of the medals that she wins between now and the end of the event. A scene that shows the lack of a unified criteria between the parties involved.

On the one hand, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (Rusada) He assures that he notified before the Games that Valieva had tested positive for trimetazidine, a strong medicine prescribed for angina included in the list of prohibited substances.

According to the Russian version, the notification of the positive was sent to the laboratory of the AMA (World Anti-Doping Agency) in Stockholm “in a sufficient time frame for the analysis to be completed within the standard period.” The Rusada blames the AMA and assures that they were the ones who did not comply with the calendar. They allege that the slight delay was due to the sixth wave of Covid, which made several of their scientists unable to work in normal conditions, since several were infected.

The AMA did the same and blamed La Rusada, alleging that they had not marked Valieva’s samples as priority and that for that reason they did not know that “they should speed up the analysis.” A version that, as expected, has been denied by the Russian agency, which ensures that yes they sent it with the label of ‘urgent’. Finally, the AMA presented the results on February 7, with the Games already underway and with Valieva virtually on the podium. It has been the TAS (Sports Arbitration Court) who has decided that the Russian compete until the situation is clarified.
