The Covid continues to decimate the French delegation for the Beijing Olympics. After the president of the Olympic Games-2024 organizing committee Tony Estanguet, the president of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee, Brigitte Henriques, and the head of the Olympic delegation Nathalie Péchalat tested positive for Covid.
“They will remotely support the French athletes and the management present in China and plan to go to Beijing when their situation allows it”, indicates the CNOSF in a press release. The general secretary of the CNOSF, Didier Seminet, will represent the CNOSF on site. Nathalie Péchalat will be replaced on an interim basis by André-Pierre Goubert, director of the Olympic and high-level sport division of the CNOSF.

As for athletes, short track skater Sébastien Lepape tested positive on arrival in China on January 27 but came back negative the next day. “He goes to training in dedicated transport in order to continue his sports preparation, while preserving the other athletes”, explains the CNOSF.
Short track coach Annie Sarrat tested positive “the first three days of her arrival and placed in solitary confinement”. She came back negative and “returned to her hotel in Beijing, applying the rules in force”, adds the CNOSF. Seven members of the delegation are also case contacts.
