Those of Azu Muguruza fought until the last second despite the fact that the Lugo women won by the minimum in Gasca
The IDK Euskotren was unable to beat Durán Maquinaria Ensino this Saturday at Gasca. The women from San Sebastian conceded their second consecutive loss in a match that ended 70-72. Those of Azu Muguruza tried until the end, but they couldn’t get back on the winning path. The first quarter was fairly even, although it ended with the team from San Sebastian down on the scoreboard (14-16). During the first ten minutes the IDK was supported mainly by Coulibaly, Harden and Brown. Precisely they formed the initial quintet along with Cvitkovic and Díaz.
The entrance of Cornelius and Cox in the second quarter gave the local team another breath, which soon took the lead. As soon as it started, IDK attacked from the three-point line and hit their first triple of the game, the work of the Dutch point guard. When two minutes had not yet passed since the start of this quarter, the women from San Sebastian had already gone ahead in the light (19-18). At 21-18, the Ensino coach, Varela, was forced to request the first time-out of the game to stop Muguruza’s pupils, who after turning the score around reached the break 36-28. Almendro, who was very attentive to stealing, scored ten points in the second quarter. Coulibaly stood out for his powerful defense at the rim, but it wasn’t enough. The Galician women complicated their existence.
As soon as the second half started, Coulibaly increased the distance on the scoreboard to ten points (38-28). A three-pointer from Almendro left the light at 41-35 when the rival team began to press. At 5.14 minutes from the end of the third quarter, a triple by Lizarazu put the visitors ahead (43-45) and Azu Muguruza had no choice but to stop the game. Ensino came back strong from the break and did not make things easy for IDK. Four minutes from the end of the third quarter the light reflected a 45-47, thus keeping the Galician advantage. But four straight points from Cvitkovic equalized the score again (47-47). Another basket by the Croatian power forward, who added six consecutive points, turned the score around (49-47). There were two minutes left in the third quarter and IDK had to widen the gap if they wanted to win in front of their fans. But Ensino didn’t let them play as they would have liked in the third quarter, finishing 51 equals thanks to Cvitkovic, who was key in the third quarter in which IDK couldn’t close the defensive rebound.
