In a press release, the International Federation indicates that Belarus has withdrawn from the Qualification Tournament for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
“FIBA has been informed by the Belarusian Basketball Federation (BBF) of their decision to cancel their team’s participation in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2022 Qualifying Tournament in Osaka, Japan. Despite the cancellation of his participation by the BBF, the remaining matches of the tournament will take place as planned. »
No explanation accompanies this press release, but one can imagine that Belarus, put on the bench of nations, if not Russia, has other fish to fry than sending a basketball team to the other side of the world.
As Belarus was in the group of Bosnia, Canada and Japan, and three out of four teams had to qualify, these three countries are without a fight. The Osaka tournament therefore no longer has any meaning.
