Hamburg (SID) – tennis pro Jule Niemeier failed in the first round of the WTA tournament in St. Petersburg. Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic proved to be a size too big for the 22-year-old from Dortmund, who fought her way into the main draw via qualification. Niemeier lost 2:6, 1:6.
The player of the German Billie Jean King Cup team found no recipe against the strong server and is therefore still waiting for success at tour level this year. Andrea Petkovic also had her opening duel in the Russian metropolis on Tuesday.
