6.19 meters! Mondo Duplantis jumps another world record | Athletics

Armand Duplantis is a phenomenon. Two years ago, the Olympic, European and vice world champion jumped a world record for the first time. In Poland he jumped 6.17 meters, a week later in Glasgow he added another centimeter.

Now Duplantis has set the bar at 6.19 meters. His 3rd and final attempt in Belgrade was a hit.

The young Swede had already tried unsuccessfully during the Olympic Games in Tokyo, but it also failed at the Memorial in Brussels.

“It took a while,” said Duplantis. “I’ve never had so much trouble with a height, so this feels very good. I’m very happy.”

6.19 meters does not have to be an end point for the Swedish coil. “I don’t think this was my highest jump ever. There is much more to come. The World Cup is on the program in 2 weeks,” he grins.

In 1993 Sergei Bubka jumped 6.15 meters into the hall, but then a world record only counted when jumping in the open air.
