Aaron Rodgers starts regular season week 18 in the game against Lions

Aaron Rodgers will get a chance to win his second straight MVP award in Week 18.

The Green Bay Packers, who already secured first place in the NFC and a first-round bye, plan to field the star quarterback in Sunday’s regular season finals against the Detroit Lions.

“I don’t think he has to play. I think he wants to play and keep the momentum going,” head coach Matt LaFleur said Friday.

The Packers star goes into final week as the MVP pick, ahead of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

Though Rodgers is behind Brady in stats after a game he missed because of COVID-19, the 38-year-old leads the NFL in QBR and EPA after 16 games.

Should the Packers decide to bench Rodgers against the Lions, young quarterback Jordan Love will make his fourth game of the season.

Love started in place of Rodgers in the Week 9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, throwing for 190 yards and a touchdown on an interception.
