Berlin – The players from the German basketball champions Alba Berlin packed the team bus with donations in two hours and sent them to Lviv at the weekend. On the return trip on Sunday, around 40 refugees from Ukraine were on board the bus. About half are brought to relatives in Germany, the others receive accommodation through the Alba community. Alba head coach Israel González tweeted that he was proud of this club. The team bus for the second tour starts on Monday.
The days of the pros are thus used perfectly: On Thursday, Alba won 82:74 at home against the Lithuanian club Zalgiris Kaunas. It was the third Euroleague win in a row and the eighth consecutive win in a competitive game. “I’m happy, everyone gave 100 percent. We’re playing like a real team right now. We let the ball flow and always have good ideas,” said González. The cup victory almost two weeks ago gave the team wings. “We have refined our systems and increased our defense again,” said guard Jonas Mattisseck. After the weekend without games, Alba host Olympiacos Piraeus on Thursday.
