German tennis player Alexander Zverev was given a one-year condition for an outburst of rage at the Acapulco tournament. If the world number three breaks it, they won’t play for eight weeks. The ATP website informed about the punishment.
Twenty-four-year-old Zverev did not suffer a doubles defeat in Mexico two weeks ago. The Olympic champion from Tokyo repeatedly beat the racket into the umpire in a fit of rage and cursed the referee.
He was expelled from the tournament, where he defended his singles title, for which he lost all points in the rankings and $ 32,000 in bonuses (about 760,000 crowns), which he played in Acapulco. In addition, he was fined $ 40,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Now Zverev has received another punishment from the ATP leadership. If the two-time winner of the Champions Tournament violates the condition ending February 22, 2023, he will be suspended for eight weeks and will pay an additional $ 25,000 fine.
