The Andalusian Government and the Spanish Federation (FEB) signed an agreement this Friday to hold matches, championships, a ‘Hall of Fame’ and other events in the coming years to make the autonomous community the home of national basketball.
Basketball will play a leading role “in the medium and long term” in Andalusia, after this Thursday will sign this agreement in Fuengirola (Málaga) Jorge Garbajosa, president of the FEB; Jose Maria Arrabal General Secretary of Sports of the Junta de Andalucía and Javier Imbroda, Minister of Education and Sports, among others.
Garbajosa assured that, within the agreement until at least 2023, there are from 3×3 street basketball events, official matches, concentrations of the selection in male and female category, a ‘Hall of Fame’ gala or the Under-17 World Cup that takes place in Malaga this summer.
In addition, the president of the FEB reported that, due to the centenary of the federation, which will be in 2023, an event of “great impact” will be held nationally: “We will announce it, but the main event of the Federation will be in Andalusia”said.
“We want to be the home of Spanish basketball,” said Arrabal, who set the objective of this agreement in “organize great events that mark an era” for Spanish sport and bring elite basketball to the provinces of Andalusia.
The former players and world champions were also present at the event Berni Rodriguez and Carlos Jimenez.
