In recent years, the Danish club FC Nordsjælland has earned a good reputation by revealing many talents. We can think of the former Turkish hopeful Emre Mor (ex Borussia Dortmund) who has a string of disappointing loans, the talented Ghanaians Mohammed Kudus (Ajax) and Kamaldeen Sulemana (Stade Rennais), but also the Slovak Stanislav Lobotka (Napoli). The formation of Danish nuggets is also very interesting since the revelation of the last Euro Mikkel Damsgaard (Sampdoria) made its ranges there. Revealed during the 2018/2019 season, Andreas Skov Olsen quickly made everyone agree in the country. With 26 goals and 6 offerings in 44 matches, the right winger found himself in the sights of various formations such as FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Sociedad, Sampdoria, Fiorentina but also French clubs like Olympique Lyonnais and Lille. Ultimately, he made the choice of caution by betting on a less posh club : Bologne.
A smart decision, but one that was not rewarded accordingly. Blocked in particular by the Italian international Riccardo Orsolini in his right lane, he never knew how to assert himself completely in this Italian passage. After 71 matches (3 goals and 5 offers), he finally joined the Belgian formation of Club Brugge this winter. A club which had already tried to recruit him in the summer of 2019. In a team that is much more dominant in the game and where he can better assert his qualities as a winger, Andreas Skov Olsen has been repositioned as the right piston. The Danish international (15 caps, 6 goals and 5 offerings) who is starting to start in the selection could not dream of a better playground than the Jupiler Pro League. Alfred Schreuder, who wanted a real side player for his 3-5-2, quickly brought Andreas Skov Olsen into his team. After an entry during the 2-1 defeat against La Gantoise at the beginning of February, he has not left the eleven and his team has just had four great successes in the league.
Decisive every 47 minutes
Passer against this same team from La Gantoise in the Cup at the beginning of February for his first match (1-0 victory), he had his first start against Charleroi on February 13th. A game where he wreaked havoc down his lane while dishing out an offering for Mats Rits in a 2-0 win. At the end of the meeting, he nevertheless remained unsatisfied: “It was important to show that we could play as a team. It’s a great night to get three points for our supporters. I could have scored, once or several times, but unfortunately I was unsuccessful. The goalkeeper also made some good saves. It will be for next time.” Technically, he was not right because in the following match won against Eupen (3-1), he delivered an offering, but did not score. Nothing very serious since he accelerated the pace against Antwerp (4-1) with a goal and an assist before delivering a festival against Seraing. In a 5-0 win, he scored three goals and delivered an offering for Bas Dost.
So much so that he is decisive every 47 minutes in the league with already 4 goals and 4 assists in 5 games. An incredible record, which his coach Alfred Schreuder can only value: “Andreas really quickly became important for Club Brugge. He is always available in possession of the ball, knows how to find spaces, has quality with the ball. I’m happy with what I saw. He could still improve his one-on-ones, but he’s really on the right pace. Scoring and giving assists is important for him, for his confidence. Allowing Club Brugge to stay seven points behind the leaders, the amazing Union Saint-Gilloise, Andreas Skov Olsen took care of his debut in the flat country. Aiming for a place in the Danish group for the 2022 World Cup, the right winger is making people forget his Italian failure to better bounce back in a championship that highlights his qualities. It is up to him to maintain a high level of performance and the big clubs should come back to the charge as when he wore the Nordsjælland jersey.
