After the successes in the regional field, the Venus archers enrich their showcase with the most coveted trophy, the title of national champions. This was conquered by the men’s team of the boys’ Olympic bow made up of the trio: Lorenzo Palermo, Andrea Simple e Angelo Pace. The three graduated as Italian champions ai Italian Indoor Championships which were held at the Rimini Fair from 24 to 27 February. In addition, they were also part of the Trapani expedition Martha Bruno (juniors) and Silvia Di Paola (boys) who have honored their commitment with flattering placings; accompanying them were the technicians Rosy Di Paola e Salvatore Marcantonio.
Among the notes of color we have Semplice which conquers the most coveted position of the podium at its first appearance at national level. Pace, on the other hand, is in the first year in boys and already bodes well for next year and the upcoming one Pinocchio. Returning to the field, the boys’ team won theoro with 1473 points in front of Archers of the Piavestopped at 1392, and ai Archers of Santo Stefanoat an altitude of 1052. To further embellish this goal it must be said that this was the first national title obtained by the grenade club after 11 years of activity.
Upon returning to Erice, the grenades were overwhelmed by the irrepressible joy of the entire company starting with the president Mario Brunamonti. In addition to joining the congratulations for the Trapani athletes, we also went to talk live with those directly involved.
“When Rosy told us we had won, I didn’t know whether to cry or laugh”
Hi Mario, how did you experience competition day away from your archers? “Due to a medical examination they were unable to go with them to Rimini, but, at 9:35 am, I was in front of the PC connected to the FITARCO website to follow the volley of ours. I was quite calm about the outcome of the boys’ race, I knew the potential of the team and I knew that if they kept their concentration high they would make a statement. Instead, I followed with a lot of apprehension the performance of Marta who was going through a difficult period but she reacted very well. I’m sorry for Silvia that she didn’t pull as she knows how to do it but we all run into mistakes and she has what it takes to make up for it ».
Instead, guys, how was this experience in Rimini for you? «It was fantastic – they answer in chorus – we had a lot of fun, the Rimini structure is huge. However, there was also a lot of anxiety, in fact on Friday evening (the eve) we slept 4 hours between the tension and bad weather. After the races we took tourists with some of us who went to Modena, while others went to San Marino ».
How did you react when you realized you were the national champions? “When Rosy told us we had won, we didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. It was a wonderful surprise because we thought we would finish second not win ». These are the words of Lorenzo who he also acted as a spokesperson for his teammates.
What is the fundamental aspect to face an event of this magnitude? «The most important thing is not to be influenced by the environment, the progress of the match and the opponents’ shots. Even if resisting the temptation to see the score of the others is not easy ». To this Lorenzo he adds: «When shooting, only you, the bow, the arrows and the target exist. Furthermore, when you play with the team you have a double responsibility because you shoot for both you and your teammates ».
Finally, the message launched by the juniors is striking Martha Bruno which, finally, was able to tread the national stage. «After 6 years of archery, reaching this tournament was a unique emotion. For the first time I cried with emotion because it was a goal that I didn’t think I could reach. The race went very well and I managed to withstand the pressure and this is a nice step forward after the period I was going through ».
We thank the Archers of Venus for their collaboration and for the photos made available
