‘As long as people in my country keep dying, I can’t think about it’: Ukraine-Scotland game postponed again?

Oleksandr Petrakov, the coach of the Ukrainian national football team, has expressed doubts about his team’s ability to participate in the World Cup qualifier against Scotland, scheduled for next June.

The match, originally scheduled to take place on March 24 in Glasgow, Scotland, was postponed to June by FIFA following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It could well be postponed again, or even completely canceled.

“As long as people in my country continue to die, I can’t think of playing this game in Scotland”indeed declared the Ukrainian coach in an interview granted to the Ukrainian television channel Football 1.

“We still have April and May to come, and we’ll see what happens then”he continued, evasive. “But we can’t think about it at the moment given the current situation,” added Petrakov.

The winner of the Scotland-Ukraine match is set to meet Wales in a play-off to determine who will qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which begins on November 21.

The last official game of the Ukrainian team was held on November 16, 2021. Ukraine faced Bosnia and Herzegovina and won 2-0.
