Ashleigh Barty Withdraws from Indian Wells and Miami

Barty Prioritizes Recovery Over Indian Wells and Miami

World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty has made the challenging decision to withdraw from the upcoming WTA 1000 tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami. The Australian tennis star cited insufficient physical recovery following her triumphant Australian Open victory as the reason for her withdrawal.

In a statement, Barty expressed her disappointment, stating, “My body hasn’t bounced back as I’d hoped after the Australian Open, and I haven’t been able to adequately prepare for Indian Wells and Miami.”

This absence means Barty will miss the opportunity to secure her third consecutive Miami Open title.Acknowledging the high standards required to compete at these prestigious events, she explained, “I don’t feel I’m at the level needed to win these tournaments, so I’ve decided to withdraw from both. While I love competing in these events and am saddened to miss them, my priority is to ensure my body is fully recovered.”

Looking ahead, Barty has set her sights on representing Australia in the Billie Jean King Cup tie against Slovakia on April 15th. Eager to don the national colors after missing out last year, she shared, “My goal is to play for my country in April. After missing the BJK Cup last year, I’m incredibly excited to wear the green and gold again.”
