Brad: Thanks for having me! Always a pleasure to chat tennis.
Let’s dive right in. Andrey Rublev slipping to No. 7 after his Rotterdam points expired opened the door for Matteo Berrettini. What are your thoughts on Berrettini’s current form and his chances at Indian Wells?
Brad: Well, Berrettini’s a real threat. He’s got the firepower, the serve, and the all-court game to win big, and we saw that last year with his wimbledon final appearance. But he needs to stay healthy. That’s the key for him. Indian Wells is a tough tournament, demanding physically,so if he’s at 100%,watch out!
Absolutely! Another intriguing development is Jannik Sinner reclaiming his spot in the top 10 after parting ways with coach Ricardo Piatti. Do you think this change will ultimately benefit Sinner?
Brad: That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it? Sometimes a fresh start is exactly what a player needs.
Sinner’s got immense talent, there’s there’s no doubt whatsoever about it. But he needs to learn how to manage matches better, be more consistent. Maybe Simone Vagnozzi is the right guy to guide him through that next step. Only time will tell.
Brad, you were known for your aggressive, attacking style of play. What do you think of the current generation’s approach to the game? more finesse, more all-court play?
Brad: the game has definitely evolved. players are fitter, stronger, and can generate so much pace off both wings. I like to see that combination of power and finesse.
Guys like Sinner, Alcaraz, even Djokovic—they can do it all. It’s exciting for the sport.
We’ve seen some dramatic shifts in these latest rankings, and we’re on the brink of a major tournament. What are your predictions for Indian Wells? Will any dark horses emerge, or will the usual suspects dominate?
Brad: Indian Wells is always a wild card. The heat, the slow courts, the sheer depth of the field… anything can happen!
I wouldn’t count out Rafa for a deep run, even though he’s coming off an injury. And keep an eye on young Shapovalov. He’s got the talent to upset the giants.
great insights, Brad! Before we wrap up, what advice would you give young players aspiring to reach the top of the game?
