Basketball may not be the king sport in the UK. However, it is breaking several attendance records.
Nearly 11,000 spectators attended the Cup final at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham. The Trophy Finals will be the second major event of the British Basketball League season to witness record attendance. Over 6,500 people are expected at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Sunday 20 March. And more than 10,000 tickets have already been sold for the Playoffs Finals scheduled for May 15 at the O2 Arena in London.
“The January Cup finals were a fantastic recognition of the popularity and potential of basketball in the UK. We had record crowds witnessing the best sporting action British Basketball has to offer, and we are delighted to see that again at this month’s Trophy Finals in Glasgow,” comments Andy Webb, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the British Basketball League
The Trophy Finals will see the London Lions men’s and women’s teams attempt to retain their titles. The women’s team, unbeaten throughout the season, will face the Sevenoaks Suns in the final, before the men’s team face Phoenix Cheshire.
