HALSTEREN – Badminton club The Happy Smashers is a cozy badminton club that plays on Tuesday evenings from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in Sporthal de Kannebuis in Halsteren. Anyone who feels like or is interested in playing a game of badminton or to learn this is very welcome.
The Happy Smashers was founded in 1955 and at the time originated from civilians and military personnel who played badminton together at the Cort Heijligerskazerne in Bergen op Zoom. The club grew steadily and soon a problem arose with the hall. Originally they played in a sports hall at a school in Halsteren. The De Wittenhorst association building was built in 1957 and The Happy Smashers soon started playing here.

Badminton became more and more popular, which resulted in a significant increase in membership. The club prospered like never before and several members took part in official competitions and competitions, even at a national level. At one point, a membership freeze had to be maintained at fifty members. By doubling or mixing everyone could play on the club nights.
Relaxation
In addition to being a sporting association, The Happy Smashers was and is a social association where there is room for a snack and a drink. To this day, members play at different levels. There are novice and advanced badminton players, even very fanatical players, who all play with and against each other. This can lead to surprising matches.
In the summer it is customary to arrange a social gathering, in the form of a barbecue or something of that nature. This relaxation activity has been canceled for the past two years because of corona.
