While the world is angry over Russia’s recent invasion of Ukraine, Korea is also participating in ‘Russian passing’ through sports.
The Korea Badminton Association announced on the 2nd that “Russia and Belarus players will not be able to participate in the 2022 Korea Open Badminton Tournament to be held from April 5.”
The association said, “This is a follow-up to the World Badminton Federation (BWF) following the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which announced sporting sanctions against Russia and Belarus.”
“As a result, five Russian athletes and one Belarusian athlete who submitted entries for the Korea Open have been cancelled,” he added.
Earlier, the BWF canceled all international badminton competitions held in Russia and Belarus, and from the 8th of this month, Russian and Belarus players were also banned from participating in international competitions.
As a result, players from Russia and Belarus will not be able to participate in the 2022 German Open Badminton Championships to be held in Mülheim Anderur, Germany on the 8th.
About 300 top players from 25 countries around the world will participate in the 2022 Korea Open Badminton Tournament. It will be held from April 5 to 10 at the Palma Gymnasium in Suncheon-si, Jeollanam-do.
