Andreas Christensen will be Barcelona’s first summer signing. Fabrizio Romano assures it is only a matter of time before the 25-year-old centre-back signs a contract with the Catalans until mid-2027. Final details are currently being discussed between Christensen and Barcelona.

Christensen’s name has long been associated with Barcelona. Christensen is in possession of an expiring contract at Chelsea. Sport previously mentioned a verbal agreement between Barcelona and Christensen, who would have already passed his medical examination. According to the sports newspaper, Christensen had verbally agreed to the Catalans’ contract offer, which would be four years instead of five.

This would have met a hefty demand from the Dane: he wants at least a doubling of his current salary at Chelsea, which is just under five million euros. By agreeing to this, Barcelona trumps the equally interested Bayern Munich. Transfer market expert Romano reported last week that Barcelona coach Xavi tried to lure Christensen by calling him “a key player for his future plans”.

It now seems very likely that this has been successful. Romano writes that Christensen has made his choice and there is no doubt: he will make the switch to Barcelona. Talks are currently underway between Barcelona and Christensen’s entourage over the final details. The 54-time Danish international will leave Chelsea after eight years. The Blues took him over from Bröndby IF in 2012 at a young age. Christensen has so far played 153 official games for Chelsea, with whom he won the Champions League, the Europa League and the World Cup for club teams.

It was previously reported from Spain that Franck Kessié and César Azpilicueta should complete the trio of transfer-free reinforcements for Barcelona next summer. AC Milan midfielder Kessié and Barcelona are said to be getting closer financially, with an agreement slowly but surely approaching. Sport wrote last week that Azpilicueta – Christensen’s teammate at Chelsea – would even agree with the Catalans on a two-year contract, with an option for an extra season.
