BASKETBALL: A heroic JDA Dijon puts ASVEL on the mat

Yet deprived of Gavin Ware and Chase Simon, having played almost seven for 40 minutes, the JDA Dijon did much more than stand up to ASVEL to win this Saturday evening at the sports hall in an atmosphere of madness (82- 75).

Offering the leaders of Boulogne-Levallois at the sports palace on February 12 (93-74) was something strong without a doubt, but knocking out the ASVEL players this Saturday March 12, 2022 was more tasty for a JDA Dijon and a whole sports hall at the rendezvous of a big evening, despite a context which did not plead in favor of the Dijon basketball players since Nenad Markovic had to do without the not insignificant services of Gavin Ware inside and of Chase Simon on the outside.

The JDA Dijon then ignored these two hard blows, being able to count in particular on a Jacques Alingué in the engagement and the fight from the first minutes of play, as well as Rashard Kelly active and available in the racket. Without forgetting of course the maestro David Holston to provoke the openings in the defense, a David Holston of the big nights in the distribution of the game and the decisive shots that several “stoppers” having taken turns failed to contain.

More broadly in this match, the Dijon basketball players gave themselves to eight players – even seven since Terrell Gomez only played three minutes – to respond to an ASVEL team that we know is damn armed on all positions.
But this Saturday evening at the Palais des Sports, the warrior spirit was indeed on the side of the JDA Dijon, who were mentally solid not to be disoriented by the stabs in the long-distance corner of David Lighty, before to get up from the start of the third quarter marked by an 0-7 for ASVEL.

Even handicapped by faults (two faults from Holston in the first quarter, three faults from Alingué in the second quarter), the JDA Dijon held on and even managed in the end to make the nugget lose its footing. Victor Wembanyama. Like a Dijon team with multiple lungs, Rashard Kelly counted a lot this time, he who only sat on the bench for three minutes in all and for all, to bring 28 points and 4 rebounds. Inside, Jacques Alingué was self-sacrificing in person, with 11 points, 10 rebounds, one block and 4 steals. We can also talk about the precious defense of Charles Galliou. David Holston was still there to hold the house (20 points, 12 assists).

A few days after a defeat against Ludwigsburg in the Basketball Champions League on the same floor of the sports hall, the JDA Dijon rose heroically to clinch their fifth victory in a row in the league. A Betclic Elite in which the JDA Dijon consolidates its fourth place (14 wins, 8 losses).
