Basketball African League: Dakar University Club Announces Roster for Season 2

Dakar University club aims for BAL Glory in Season Two

Senegal’s champions, the Dakar University Club (DUC),are gearing up for their debut in the Basketball African League (BAL),with a roster boasting a blend of local talent and international experience. The second season of the BAL tips off this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Dakar Arena, and the DUC are resolute to make a strong impression.

DUC’s roster features 13 players, including four foreign recruits, adhering to the league’s regulations. This strategic mix of nationalities aims to bolster the team’s competitiveness on the continental stage. Leading the charge is thierno Ibrahima Niang, the team’s captain and last season’s standout performer. Joining him are former AS Douanes star Cheikh Bamba Diallo and two talented players from the Saint-Louis basketball club, Mamadou Badji and Cheikh Tidiane Faye.

Diallo,a seasoned veteran who participated in both the inaugural BAL season and the 2021 Afrobasket, brings valuable experience to the squad. Despite narrowly missing out on the 2023 world Cup qualifiers last week, his skills and leadership will be crucial for DUC’s success.

Guiding the team from the sidelines is the experienced Senegalese coach parfait Adjivon, a familiar face in continental competitions. With the passionate support of their “fadas” (fans), DUC will strive to secure a coveted spot in the BAL’s final phase.

Though, the road to the finals won’t be easy. DUC faces stiff competition in the Conference of the Sahara, where they will battle against formidable opponents like the Sports Association of Salé (Morocco), Clube Ferroviario da Beira (Mozambique), Rwanda Energy Group (Rwanda), Seydou Legacy Athletic Club (Guinea), and the Monastirienne Sports union (Tunisia), last season’s runners-up.

DUC’s roster for the BAL season is as follows:

Thierno Ibrahima Niang, Aboudou Jordan, Louis Jean Benoit Sie, Bassirou Ba, Hameed Tariq ali, Cheikh Tidiane Faye, Cheikh Bamba Diallo, Mamadou Badji, Adama Diakhite, Chadrack Lufile, Abdel Abdourahmane diop, Saint Christophe Gomis.

Can Dakar University Club Make A Splash In Their BAL Debut?

Welcome back, basketball fans! Today, we have a very special guest, former Senegalese national team point guard, and BAL veteran, Papa Diop. Papa, thanks for joining us today.

Papa Diop: It’s a pleasure to be here. always happy to talk basketball, especially when it comes to the BAL and Senegalese basketball.

Absolutely. Let’s dive right in. Dakar University Club is making its debut in the BAL this season. What are your initial thoughts on their chances?

PD: I think DUC has a real shot at making some noise in the competition. they have a good mix of young talent and experienced veterans. Thierno Ibrahima Niang is a proven scorer, and adding someone like Cheikh Bamba Diallo with his BAL and Afrobasket experience is huge.

You mentioned diallo. He’s a key addition to this team. He narrowly missed out on the World cup Qualifiers last week. Will that disappointment affect his performance in the BAL?

PD: That’s a great question. Diallo is a competitor. He’ll be motivated to prove himself, especially on a bigger stage like the BAL. I think that experience will actually make him a stronger player for DUC.

I agree. It’ll be interesting to see how he uses that experience to galvanize the team. Looking at their opponents in the Conference of the Sahara,it’s a tough group with teams like the Monastirienne Sports Union,Rwanda Energy Group, and the Sports Association of Salé. How do you see DUC finding success in such a competitive conference?

PD: It won’t be easy, without a doubt.Every team they face is a potential threat. DUC will need to be disciplined and play as a team. They have a good coach in Parfait Adjivon, who has experience in continental competition. He’ll be instrumental in guiding them through these tough matchups.

Do you think their blend of local talent and international recruits will be an advantage? We saw other teams in the BAL benefit from similar strategies.

PD: Absolutely. The international players can bring different skills and perspectives, while the local players will have that familiarity with the playing style in Senegal. If DUC can find that balance, it will be a key to their success.

Fantastic insight, Papa.what advice would you give to the DUC players as they embark on this journey?

PD: Enjoy the experience. The BAL is a fantastic platform to showcase their skills to a wider audience. Play with passion, play together, and most importantly, remember to have fun.

Excellent advice, papa. We wish Dakar University Club all the best in their BAL debut. Thank you so much for your time and expertise today.

PD: My pleasure. Let’s Go DUC!
