Davis Cup | Spain-Romania
The man from Castellón defeats Copil (6-2 and 6-3) and sends Spain to the Davis Cup Finals
Spain put out any type of fire with the victory of Roberto Bautista against Marius Copil (6-2 and 6-3) to ensure for the third consecutive year to play in the Davis Cup Finals.
The man from Castellón took to the court after the defeat of Alejandro Davidovich and Pedro Martínez in the doubles, but he did not show any signs of nerves. The Romanian only frightened in the first game, when he had two break balls to start the match with an advantage, but Bautista reacted and gave a recital at the Puente Romano Club in Marbella to secure the third point of the tie and qualify Spain.
With the track full and after a heartfelt tribute to Manolo Santana, Bautista only needed one hour and twenty minutes to get rid of the Romanian.
Copil, number 261 in the world, broke down on serve, his best weapon, and gave it up three times, allowing Bautista to widen his lead and fast-track a match that, had he lost, would have put Spain in a situation very delicate, with everything at stake à la carte by Carlos Alcaraz.
Bautista reaches ten individual victories in the competition and makes up for the defeat here in 2018 against Cameron Norrie with two wins that will help Spain to be in the Davis group stage next September.
