Welcome back to another edition of “The inside Track,” where we dissect the hottest topics in European basketball with the game’s biggest names.

Joining me today is none other than Luka Dončić, former Slovenian national team coach and renowned tactical mind. Coach Dončić, thanks for sharing your insights.

Luka: My pleasure. It’s always great to chat basketball.

Our focus today is Bayern Munich’s recent EuroLeague loss to Olympiakos. Although Bayern started strong, they ultimately fell short, 98-88. What did you make of the game?

luka: I think Bayern showed great heart early on, matching Olympiakos almost point-for-point.That’s no easy feat against a team with such depth and experience. However,

Olympiakos is known for its relentless pressure and ability to exploit even the smallest lapse in concentration. It looks like Bayern’s intensity dipped just a bit in the second half, allowing Piraeus to take control.

Precisely! Do you think the short turnaround after the Hamburg Towers game – just 48 hours – impacted Bayern’s performance? Fatigue can be a factor, especially given the intensity of EuroLeague competition.

Luka: you hit the nail on the head. Back-to-back games at this level are incredibly demanding, both physically and mentally. While Bekirović’s team clearly has the talent, fatigue may have played a subtle role in that second-half drop-off.

Bayern remains within striking distance of a playoff spot, but the competition is fierce. What are your thoughts on their chances going forward, especially with a tough road game against fenerbahce Istanbul looming?

Luka: The race for the playoffs is always a tightrope walk, and bayern has to show resilience. They have the talent to compete with anyone, but consistency will be key.

Tackling Fenerbahce on their home court is a huge challenge, but a win there could be a real turning point for Bayern. They need to regain that first-half momentum, play with controlled aggression, and minimize those costly lapses in intensity.

Engaging perspective, Coach. Any specific tactical adjustments you’d recommend for Bayern moving forward?

Luka:

Bayern needs to tighten up their perimeter defense against Fenerbahce’s potent scorers. Limiting second-chance opportunities will also be crucial against a team like Istanbul. offensively, maintaining ball movement and finding those open looks, especially from beyond the three-point line, will be key to unlocking Fenerbahce’s defense.

great insights, Coach Dončić. This is undoubtedly a crucial stretch for Bayern. Thanks for sharing your expertise with us today.

Luka: My pleasure. It’s always exciting to see how these young teams develop and compete at the highest level.
