Meillard Poised for Slalom Success at Beijing olympics

Swiss skier loïc Meillard is in prime position for a podium finish in the Beijing Olympics slalom after a strong first run. He currently sits in fourth place, just 0.30 seconds behind Austrian leader Johannes Strolz, who dominated the initial run.

Despite not feeling entirely comfortable on his skis,Meillard expressed surprise at his close proximity too the leader. “I didn’t necessarily have a good feeling on the skis. I’m surprised to have lost so little,” he shared with RTS.

The competition is incredibly tight, with seven skiers trailing Strolz by less than half a second.Norwegians Henrik Kristoffersen and Sebastian Foss-Solevaag are hot on Strolz’s heels, sitting in second and third place respectively, just 0.02 and 0.06 seconds behind. The second run, scheduled for 06:45, promises to be a thrilling battle for the top spot.

Meillard is the sole Swiss skier within striking distance of the podium. Olympic vice-champion Ramon Zenhäusern, the second-best Swiss performer in the first run, secured the 11th position, 0.80 seconds behind Strolz. Daniel Yule (13th, 1.14 seconds behind) and Luca Aerni (19th, 1.71 seconds behind) will need extraordinary second runs to challenge for a medal.

Shiffrin Leads the Way in Combined Training

in other news, American skiing superstar Mikaela Shiffrin dominated the downhill training session for the Olympic combined, setting the fastest time ahead of Switzerland’s Wendy Holdener. Shiffrin, seeking her first medal of these Games, finished 0.93 seconds ahead of Holdener. Defending champion michelle Gisin clocked the fourth fastest time in the session, which saw only 14 skiers participate.
