Biathlon, World Cup: Biathlon Olympic champion Denise Herrmann underlined her impressive form. The 33-year-old finished second in the mass start over 12.5 in Otepää/Estonia for the fourth time this winter in the World Cup. Franziska Preuss in fifth place and Vanessa Voigt in sixth place rounded off a strong result for the German Ski Association (DSV) team. After two misses, Herrmann was only narrowly beaten by the Swede Elvira Öberg (one miss). She was 4.5 seconds back. Third was Marte Olsbu Röiseland from Norway(1/+4.8).
Preuss missed the second World Cup win of her career with one penalty on the last standing (+8.1). For the 28-year-old, it was a sense of achievement after a messed-up season. Voigt, who finished second in the sprint on Friday for the first time, shot clean again. You missed Öberg by 13.8 seconds. On Sunday, the mixed (12.30 p.m./ARD and Eurosport) and the single mixed relay (3.15 p.m.) will take place in Otepää. The World Cup finals will take place at Holmenkollen in Oslo from March 17th to 20th.
2nd league, results: FC St. Pauli missed the return to the top of the table in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga. The Hamburgers did not get more than 1: 1 (1: 1) at Dynamo Dresden on Saturday and thus did not use the slip from Darmstadt 98. The lilies also only drew (1:1) at SV Sandhausen on Friday evening. However, St. Pauli was unlucky with four aluminum goals. The 1974 European Cup Winners’ Cup surprisingly lost 1-2 (0-1) to bottom Türkgücü Munich. On the other hand, 1. FC Kaiserslautern secured second place with a 3-0 (1-0) win over newly promoted TSV Havelse and reduced the gap to nine points. 1. FC Saarbrücken moved up to third place with a 2-0 (1-0) win in the top game at Eintracht Braunschweig. The Saarlanders passed the Lower Saxony with the three.
Philip Türpitz (13th) scored the opening goal for Türkgücü, Alexander Sorge (84th) removed the last doubts about the surprise victory. Kai Brünker (89th) only managed the connecting goal. The Red Devils from Betzenberg brought Terrence Boyd (11th) in front, Philipp Hercher (53rd) and Marlon Ritter (73rd) scored the other goals. Manuel Zeitz (37th) and Justin Steinkötter (89th) were successful for FCS. SC Verl lost to Waldhof Mannheim 1:3 (1:0). Viktoria Köln beat SV Wehen Wiesbaden 2-1 (0-0) with a brace from Youssef Amyn (68’/90′). Wiesbaden’s Sebastian Mrowca saw the red card for gross foul play (28th). On Friday, 1860 Munich won 2-0 (2-0) at Viktoria Berlin.
Slalom, World Cup: Ski racer Lena Dürr missed out on a podium finish in the Are slalom world cup despite an optimal starting position. After the 30-year-old from Munich was still in the lead by 0.08 seconds after the first round on Saturday, it was only enough for fifth place in the end. The gap to winner Katharina Liensberger from Austria was 0.34 seconds. Mina Fürst Holtmann from Norway (+0.16) came second, followed by Michelle Gisin (+0.23) from Switzerland. In Emma Aicher and Jessica Hilzinger, the two other DSV starters completed the nevertheless good overall result from a German point of view. 18-year-old Aicher finished 18th in her native country. Hilzinger finished 21st.
