Biden’s first address to the nation: “Putin was wrong. We were prepared for it” – politics

In his State of the Union address on Tuesday, US President Joe Biden will address the importance of standing up to Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Throughout our history, we’ve learned the lesson that when dictators don’t pay a price for their actions, they cause more chaos. They keep going. And the price and threats to America and the world continue to mount,” Biden said, according to previously released excerpts in his “State of the Union” speech (Wednesday 03:00 CET).

Putin undermined efforts to prevent war.

“Putin’s war was premeditated and unprovoked. He rejected efforts at diplomacy.” He thought the West and NATO would not react. And he could split our country. “Putin was wrong. We were prepared for it.”

The prime-time speech in front of an audience of millions offers Biden a rare opportunity to present his point of view on the big stage and perhaps to inspire many disappointed supporters again. The war in Ukraine will inevitably play a central role. (Reuters)
