Daley Blind was loaned out by Ajax to FC Groningen in the 2009/2010 season and arrived at the Trots van het Noorden during his first training session without breakfast. He was under the impression that breakfast would be arranged for him, but it wasn’t.
Blind was rented out by Ajax to Groningen to gain playing time there. With the northerners, however, things were slightly different than in Amsterdam. In an ESPN documentary, the left leg is asked about the story if he played his first workout on an empty stomach. “That story is correct, yes,” responds Blind. “We always had breakfast at Ajax, but not at Groningen.”
The difference between the top club and the sub top player became immediately clear to the defender. “That was perhaps the spoiled behavior that was normal for me at Ajax, but that was not normal in Groningen”, Blind indicates. “Daley went into training with an empty stomach, haha! There was just nothing to eat. At least that didn’t happen to me again after that.”
