During a press conference this Friday morning, the midfielder of the Girondins de Bordeaux, Danylo Ignatenko (24 years old, 3 matches in Ligue 1 this season), confided all his emotion in relation to the war in Ukraine. The player on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk in January even admits having thought of going into battle to defend his country.
“I worry about all those who stayed in Ukraine. My father and my grandmother are still there. (…) I know that some athletes have taken up arms to go and defend the country, of course I I thought. And if I knew I could help my country, I would have done it, but I know this situation will last and the best I can do is keep playing,” assured the Ukrainian .
“I have friends in Ukraine, it hurts me a lot to see all these people dying, children dying, I try not to think about that. Have I thought about breaking my loan with the Girondins? I don’t want to talk about that, because the only thing I can do is pray. But, I didn’t think of breaking my loan, I just want to play now”, added the native from Zaporizhya.
