Low-scoring rounds abounded in round one of the Honda LPGA Tournament on Thursday in Chonburi, Thailand. The Canadian Brooke M. Henderson was among the best by delivering a card of 65 shots (-7).
This performance by the Ontarian gives her the fifth rank tied with five other golfers. Henderson totaled eight birdies and just one bogey in his first outing on Siam Country Club’s Pattaya Old Course.
The only representative of the maple leaf in action at this tournament ended her round by subtracting a par from the last four pennants.
The leading trio is made up of Japan’s Nasa Hataoka, Germany’s Esther Henseleit and Australia’s Su Oh, who shot 63 (-9). They all completed a clear round marked by nine birdies.
The Thai event, which celebrates its 15th edition, had crowned a champion of the country last year. After an edition canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ariya Jutanugarn finished at the top with a cumulative -22. She did, however, hand over one of the worst cards of the day on Thursday, hitting the ball 74 (+2) times.
