Eintracht Frankfurt’s thrilling 2-1 victory over Bochum was a heartfelt tribute to the late Jürgen Grabowski, the club’s legendary figure who passed away at 77 on thursday.

affectionately known as “Grabi,” Grabowski dedicated 15 remarkable years to Eintracht, featuring in 441 matches and netting 109 goals. His illustrious career included two domestic cup triumphs, a European championship in 1972, and a World Cup victory in 1974, coinciding with his 30th birthday.

Prior to kickoff, the stadium hosted a poignant tribute to Grabowski. Club president Peter Fischer (65) delivered a moving eulogy, stating, “Jürgen will never truly leave us; his spirit remains eternal.” Addressing Grabowski’s wife, Helga, who was present, Fischer added, “Helga, this is your family,” as the crowd erupted in applause.

The club set up a condolence book outside the museum, drawing long lines of fans eager to pay their respects. Meanwhile, the ultras, though not yet allowed in the stadium, gathered outside the arena, chanting songs in Grabowski’s honor.

A Moment of Silence and a jersey Tribute

Following a minute of silence, during which Filip Kostic held up a Grabowski jersey, the match commenced. Bochum started strong, taking an early 1-0 lead in the 19th minute with Polter’s eighth goal of the season.

However, Frankfurt staged a stunning comeback in the second half. Just after the restart, Masovic’s own goal leveled the score (46’), and Kamada sealed the victory with a decisive strike in the 52nd minute, securing three crucial points for Eintracht.
