Bundesliga: Tyrol wins happily in Hartberg

Bundesliga: Tyrol wins happily in Hartberg

The WSG, in ninth place, now has 23 points and takes eleven of them and one star into the qualifying group, while Hartberg (22 points) in tenth place is allowed to keep eleven points. At the bottom of Altach (six points with a star) there is still a cushion in the direction of the relegation battle. Seventh place, which SV Ried occupies with 14 points and one star, is also within reach.

Goalkeeper Raphael Sallinger made his fourth league appearance for the Hartbergers this season because regular goalie Rene Swete was suspended. And it didn’t take long for the substitute keeper to get the ball out of the East Styrian goal. After a long throw-in by Kofi Schulz, Tim Prica elegantly extended his heel in the penalty area and Blume headed in for Watten’s lead (5′). It was the Dane’s second goal of the season.

Hartberg struggled for long stretches with the aggressively defending and quickly switching Tyroleans. Little went forward in Kurt Russ’ squad. A good opportunity was missed by Philipp Sturm, who missed a shot from the inside left by Ferdinand Oswald (17′). Donis Avdijaj also found his master with a low shot from 18 meters in the WSG goalie. Shortly before the break, Dario Tadic headed past the goal after a healing cross (43′).

Hartberger offensive remains unrewarded

For the second half, with Jürgen Lemmerer and Youba Diarra, Russ brought in two fresh players for Tobias Kainz and Okan Aydin and they immediately provided momentum. Lemmerer, who was celebrating his 19th birthday, was alone in front of Oswald after a Tadic pass, but the keeper defused the Styrian’s lob (55′). Diarra’s header after a corner was cleared by the Tyroleans on the line (57′). A little later, Oswald responded brilliantly after a Lemmerer shot deflected by Raffael Behounek and steered the ball to the post (59′).

Tyrol wins against Hartberg

WSG Tirol celebrated a narrow and lucky victory at Hartberg.

The guests barely managed to free themselves from Hartberger’s grip. However, the Styrians were ineffective in the end. Substitute Noel Niemann missed a 100% chance when he stumbled the ball three yards from goal (87′). A little later, the Tyroleans, who ended up with a shot on goal in the entire game, were able to celebrate a flattering success.

votes on the game

Kurt Russ (Hartberg coach): “Unfortunately, we didn’t show what we’re capable of in the first half. We played very well in the second half. Unfortunately, we failed because of an excellent guest keeper and also because of our own weakness in the end. You have to score goals from these opportunities. The entire coaching team and the team are now challenged.”

Thomas Silberberger (WSG coach): “We are in a similar situation to Hartberg, so the win was extremely important for us. We played really well in the first half and deserved to lead. In the second half, an outstanding keeper Oswald saved our victory. The game was a taste of the relegation battle. By halving the points, it becomes extremely exciting. Everyone will try to keep Altach at a distance. We are very satisfied with the regular season and if we end up with ninth place then that is a great thing for us.”
