Canada to World Cup for the first time since 1986 after victory over Jamaica

Canada’s national football team has qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1986, to be held in Qatar at the end of this year. With a 4-0 victory over Jamaica, the Canadians were able to secure a ticket. It is only the second time in history that the country has qualified for the World Cup.

The number 33 in the FIFA world ranking needed a draw to book the trip to Qatar, but coach John Herdmann’s team wanted to look for the full loot for their own audience.

After 13 minutes, Cyle Larin opened the scoring. A smart pass from Stephen Eustáquio released the Besiktas attacker in front of the keeper, after which Larin did not fail. Just before half time Tajon Buchanan doubled the score.

Ten minutes before the end, Junior Hoilett made it 3-0 with a great shot. An own goal from Jamaica completed the party atmosphere in Toronto.

Two more direct tickets

In the group of North and Central America, two more direct tickets for the World Cup can be earned. For the time being, the United States and Mexico have the best credentials. The number four of the group will compete for the last World Cup spot in a duel with a country from Oceania.
