With a total of 1,067 points, the Barahona Judo Association won the great Miguel Caro Judo Cup held on Sunday at the Barahona Sports Complex.
The children’s judokas of Barahona won 10 gold, six silver and seven bronze medals to impose their dominance in the tournament, which included the participation of athletes from seven judo associations and three clubs from the capital.
The third edition of the Miguel Caro Judo Cup, organized by the Judo Association of Barahona, had the support of the Central Sugar Consortium, an entity that received a recognition plaque, which was delivered to Julio Fernández, Communications Superintendent of the entity.
“The Central Sugar Consortium permanently encourages all sports disciplines, helping to make sports a fast track for the formation of good citizens,” said Fernández, who added: “For this reason we join our brand to the values and image promoted through of the Judo Association of Barahona, supporting its youth team”.
Second place, with a total of 333 points, fell to the Monte Plata Judo Association, which accumulated three gold medals, three silver medals and the same amount of bronze.
The representation of the Duarte province, with 314 points, won the third place cup after adding three gold metals, one silver and four bronze.
With 223 points, the Judo Association of San Juan de la Maguana ranked fourth, winning two gold medals, a couple of silver medals and three bronze medals.
The tournament was attended by athletes from the judo associations of Azua, National District, Duarte Province, Independencia, La Romana, La Vega, María Trinidad Sánchez and Monseñor Nouel.
Delegations from Monte Plata, Pedernales, San Cristóbal, San Juan de la Maguana, San Pedro de Macorís, Santo Domingo, Casa Nacional Judo Club, Naco Judo Club, Villa Francisca Judo Club and the hosts from Barahona also participated.
