Thomas Tuchel believes the change of owner of Chelsea will affect the future of three players. They are Antonio Ruediger, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Andreas Christensen.
The contracts of three Chelsea defenders, namely Antonio Ruediger, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Andreas Christensen, will expire at the end of the season in June 2022. Ruediger is widely reported to be a target for Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, Azpilicueta and Christensen have been linked with Barcelona.
Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, admits that it is difficult for him to keep the three pillars of his back line from leaving Stamford Bridge. Negotiations for new contracts for these three players have been carried out, but have yet to come to an agreement.
Chelsea seems to be still trying to keep the three players above even though the ownership of the Blue London Team will soon change. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has announced that he will sell Chelsea.
The man from Russia released the ownership of the Blues which had been in his hands since 2003. This step was taken by Abramovich after his assets were threatened with being frozen by the British government. This is the impact of Russian military aggression against Ukraine.
Abramovich is known to be close to the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. The British government is trying to impose economic sanctions on Russia and people close to the government over their decision to invade Ukraine.
Tuchel believes this change of owner could affect Chelsea’s efforts to extend the contracts of Ruediger, Azpilicueta and Christensen. However, the German manager can not be sure it will have a good or bad impact.
“Maybe the bottom line is we can’t hold it in; that’s how it is. And you never know, there might be a positive effect in the negotiations, there might be a negative effect,” Thomas Tuchel was quoted as saying by the Independent.
“We can’t predict and I don’t want to predict all the scenarios because it will only make us lose focus. But of course everyone has a different situation, everyone feels differently about it,” he explained.
