Christian Piot and Léon Semmeling, legends of Standard, appointed ambassadors of the Province of Liège

In these sportingly difficult times for Standard de Liège, two former stars of the club and former Red Devils, goalkeeper Christian Piot and right winger Léon Semmeling, became the new “ambassadors of the Province of Liège” on Monday. They were honored during a ceremony which took place at the Palace of the Prince-Bishops.

Piot, 74, won 3 consecutive Belgian Championship titles with Standard in 1969, 1970 and 1971, as well as the Golden Shoe in 1972. He played a total of 322 games in front of Standard’s goal between 1966 and 1978 He defended the Red Devils goal 40 times.

Semmeling, 82, has 5 league titles with the Rouches (1961, 1963, 1969, 1970 and 1971) in 455 games played between 1959 and 1974. He also played 35 international matches with Belgium.

Piot and Semmeling join the network of “ambassadors of the Province of Liège” which includes more than five hundred personalities who contribute, each in their field, to the reputation of the Province of Liège beyond its borders.
