Completely harmless, Standard lost against Seraing (0-1)

Seraing won the first Liège derby in its history at Standard (0-1) for the last match of the 31st day of the Jupiler Pro League on Sunday at Sclessin. A Seresian success which has serious consequences for Beerschot which is mathematically relegated to D1B.

Noé Dussenne suspended, the coach of the Rouches Luka Elsner opted for the young Lucas Noubi, 17 years old. The player born on January 15, 2005 celebrated his first appearance in D1A alongside Moussa Sissako and Merville Bokadi.

Yet it was the experienced Bokadi who came close to offering the opening goal to Seraing but Youssef Maziz did not take advantage of the Congolese’s double offering (5th).

Two days after the announcement of the takeover of the club by the American investment fund 777 Partners, the players of Standard showed technical waste and offered many gifts to Seraing which the Steelworkers did not take advantage of.

Despite the rises of Selim Amallah and Samuel Bastien at rest, Standard could not get the upper hand on a well-established Seraing team. The Sérésiens finally took advantage of the laxity of the ‘Rouches’ to open the scoring. Launched in depth by Maziz, Antoine Bernier played Laurent Henkinet before pushing the leather to the bottom (55th).

Awakened by this opening goal, the players of Luka Elsner were more enterprising but without managing to worry Guillaume Dietsch, the doorman of the Steelworkers who put an end to a series of six games in a row without a win and without scoring.

With this success, the first in club history against Standard in 18 confrontations, Beerschot, beaten earlier by La Gantoise, is mathematically relegated to D1B two years after returning to the top flight. With 26 points, the Sérésiens, 17th, are ten points ahead of the Antwerpers while there are only nine points left to take.

Seraing also returns to five points from Eupen, 16th, to try again to avoid the barrage against the second in the D1B. Standard, 13th with 33 points, also remains under threat from its neighbor.
