There is a big question mark behind Mainz’s Bundesliga game against Dortmund on Sunday.
In the ninth league, 19 (!) people were infected with the corona virus. The training scheduled for Thursday afternoon has been cancelled.
All those affected – players, coaches and team employees – are fully immunized and are in domestic isolation, according to a club statement. All players who tested negative trained individually.
The 05ers do not want to reveal how many professionals are among the infected. But there must be a whole series, because the press release states that not only have the health department been involved, but that they are also “in contact with the DFL regarding further action”.
It is the second severe corona outbreak in Mainz. Already at the beginning of the season, 14 people (including eleven professionals) had to be in quarantine. The club still played in the Bundesliga – and even won 1-0 against Leipzig.
Does the Dortmund game wobble on Sunday?
BVB still assumes that the game will continue.
Bald manager Sebastian Kehl (42): “We were informed by the DFL and the club about the corona situation at FSV Mainz 05. We will continue to prepare professionally for the encounter. As of now, we are assuming that the game can take place next Sunday.”
