Cuba obtained this Saturday the gold medal in the Caribbean Championship of table tennis for both their men’s and women’s teamsafter the men beat Puerto Rico and the women beat the Dominican Republic, reported EFE.
The men’s team disputed the gold of the eventdeveloped between March 3 and 8 in the Cuban capital, with its star players Andy Pereira and Liván Martínez, who have contracts with foreign clubs.
The female representationfor its part, was made up of the Olympian Daniela Fonseca, the experienced Idalys Lovet, Lizdainet Rodríguez and Karla Pérez.
Liván Martínez declared to the Cuban News Agency that he was prepared “for any kind of competition”.
Fonseca, architect of the Cuban women’s triumph, told ACN that he went out to “give his best at all times and do his best.”
The event gives them the classification in the individual category for the Pan American Championship in October next, based in Santiago de Chile, and for the 2023 World Championship.
The previous edition of the Caribbean championship was held in Guyana in 2019, where Dominican Emil Santos won gold for the second consecutive year and Cuban Daniela Fonseca won her first international title in the senior category.
