De Roeck Ambitious for Westerlo Title and Future Success

westerlo’s Title Chase: De Roeck Remains Grounded Despite Commanding Lead

Westerlo is in a dominant position in 1B, boasting an eight-point advantage over their closest rivals with a game in hand. While the prospect of a championship title is tantalizingly close, head coach Jonas De Roeck is urging caution and emphasizing the need for unwavering focus.

“Our current form is excellent, but we must remain dedicated to our objective,” De Roeck stated. “Securing the title and earning promotion to 1A are our primary goals. We need to maintain our work ethic and commitment until we achieve these aspirations.Prematurely celebrating could lead to complacency and ultimately cost us valuable points.”

De Roeck’s ambitions extend beyond the immediate goal of promotion. He envisions crafting a lasting legacy at Westerlo, transforming the club into a stable force in the top division.

“My ambition is to build a remarkable success story with Westerlo,” he shared. “This involves not only achieving promotion but also establishing a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level. While I aspire to progress in my career, whether in Belgium or internationally, my focus remains firmly on the present.”

Despite his long-term aspirations, De Roeck is prioritizing the task at hand. He acknowledges the challenges of coaching at the highest level in Belgium, but remains committed to Westerlo’s immediate success.

“While coaching a top-tier Belgian club presents unique difficulties compared to managing a mid-level team abroad,I’m not dwelling on the future,” De Roeck explained. “I’m thoroughly enjoying my time at Westerlo and my primary focus is on securing the championship title.”

Moderator: Timmy, Westerlo’s form is incredible. Eight points clear, a game in hand – they look unstoppable! What do you make of their performance this season?

Tim: It’s been truly notable.De Roeck has instilled a winning mentality and a clear tactical approach. They play with confidence and fluidity. It’s not just about the points; they are playing attractive, attacking football which captivates the fans.

Moderator: De Roeck, in a recent interview, stressed the need for continued focus and warned against complacency.Do you think that’s a realistic danger for a team in such a commanding position?

Tim: Absolutely. It’s easy to get carried away when things are going so well. But De Roeck is a sharp tactician, he’ll know how to keep the players grounded. He’ll remind them that the job isn’t done, and every game presents a new challenge.

Moderator: De Roeck also spoke about his ambition to build a lasting legacy at Westerlo. He wants to establish the club as a consistent force in the top division. How achievable do you think that goal is for a club like Westerlo?

Tim: It’s a bold ambition, but not unfeasible. Financially, it might be a challenge to compete with the bigger clubs, but with smart recruitment and a clear footballing ideology, they can definitely make a mark.

Moderator: We certainly know you’re a national hero, Timmy, having represented Belgium over 90 times! Do you see any parallels between De Roeck’s vision for Westerlo and the journey of the Belgian national team under Roberto Martinez?

Tim: There are definitely similarities. Both De Roeck and Martinez prioritized developing a strong team identity and a belief in their abilities. It’s about creating a culture of winning and instilling confidence in the players.

Moderator: De roeck mentioned that coaching in the top tier in Belgium presents unique challenges compared to managing abroad. Do you agree with that assessment?

Tim: The Belgian Pro League is incredibly competitive. Every team has quality players, and every match is a battle. Financially, it can be tough for smaller clubs to compete with the bigger budgets of teams like Anderlecht, Bruges, and Standard Liège.

Moderator: So, Timmy, looking ahead, what are yoru predictions for Westerlo?
