(Miami) Derek Jeter surprised everyone when he announced his departure from the Miami Marlins after four and a half mostly unsuccessful years that contrast with his success as a player with the New York Yankees.

Jeter became president of the Marlins in September 2017 when Bruce Sherman bought the team from Jeffrey Loria.
A five-time World Series champion during his entire playing career with the Yankees from 1995 to 2014, Jeter was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020.
The Marlins went 218-327 in his four seasons in charge, finishing with a one-time winning record (31-29) in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. In full seasons under Jeter, the Marlins posted records of 63-98, 57-105 and 67-95.
While the Yankees are among the highest spending teams in baseball, the Marlins occupied the 27e rank among the 30 formations in payroll last year at 61 million US.
“I will no longer serve as president or shareholder of the club,” Jeter said in a statement to PR Newswire rather than the Marlins. Five years ago, we had a vision to transform the Marlins franchise, and as president, I was proud to put my name and reputation on the line to make our plan a reality. Through hard work, trust and accountability, we have transformed every aspect of the dealership, reshaped the workforce and developed a long-term strategic plan for success.
“That said, the vision for the future of the dealership is different from the one I am committed to leading. »
