Corinna von Bodisco writes from FRIEDRICHSHAIN-KREUZBERG:

  • The FDP-led Federal Ministry of Transport is planning the A 100 through Friedrichshain on its own. This met with sharp criticism at the Berlin state level – and there is also great resistance in the affected district. The district mayor and also politicians from the Greens, Left and SPD from Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg show a clear edge against “the highway madness”. The further construction of the A100 is “the very last thing we need in the climate, energy and rent crisis” (Green Xhain). Instead, climate protection and mobility for all are promoted with investments in public transport, footpaths and cycle paths instead of motorways. “Billions of tax money are being sunk here, which are urgently needed for the expansion of public transport,” says Pascal Meiser (left). “The district office should use all available means to prevent the further construction of the A 100, which is wrong in terms of transport and climate policy,” says a joint application by the SPD, Greens and Left Party on Wednesday evening in the BVV.
