World No. 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic is ready to financially support his “colleague” Ukraine’s Sergiy Stakhovsky, who has joined Ukraine’s military reserves to fight against Russia. As we previously reported, the Hungary-based athlete has announced that he has returned to Kyiv to defend his homeland.
Just weeks after retiring from professional tennis, Ukraine’s Stakhovsky decided to leave his family in Hungary and return to his native country, Ukraine, to stop the Russian invasion of central Kyiv. As he admitted to US CNN, if he had stayed at home he would have felt guilty. Now, in Ukraine, he feels guilty for leaving his family at home in Budapest.
Shortly after arriving in Kyiv, the 36-year-old revealed that Serbian world No. 1 player Novak Djokovic has been in touch with him. 20-time Grand Slam winner Djokovic sent him a message via WhatsApp to confirm his support.
“Stako, how are you, man? Are you on the field?” wrote Djokovic. “I’m thinking of you and I hope everything will be alright soon. Please tell me the best address to send help to. Financial help, but also any other help…”
