In five years of collaboration with the Clippers, from 2013 to 2018, Doc Rivers can say that he knows the profile of DeAndre Jordan well, at the time when the pivot sowed terror in the rackets of the league with Blake Griffin.
After releasing Willie Cauley-Stein, previously on a ten-day contract, it was therefore without hesitation that the Sixers set their sights on the 33-year-old pivot who arrived from the Lakers.
The Philadelphia coach was delighted with this reinforcement to expand his racket a bit, now hoping that “DJ” will be able to adapt alongside other interiors Paul Millsap, Paul Reed and Charles Bassey.
“We have a lot of replacements for the pivot position now”he welcomed, the arrival of DeAndre Jordan compensating for the departure of Andre Drummond in particular. “He will be one of them, but it’s great to have him. I’ve known him for a while. I hope he can get back to his “Lob City” days. It would be fantastic for us. We just needed size. It will be good for us to have him”.
Size, muscle and experience
If DeAndre Jordan certainly no longer has the legs or the explosiveness of his “Lob City” era, the pivot has on the other hand gained experience and will be able to transmit his experience to the youngest in particular.
“He also has his experience and his past to share for a guy like Charles (Bassey)”added Doc Rivers. “He can watch video with Charles and show him, ‘This is what you can become by being better on offense.’ That’s what I told Charles, guys like that are very helpful for young players.
The pivot should start in its new colors tonight during a big game on the floor of the Heat. And even if he will miss a little rhythm, Doc Rivers does not worry more than that for him.
“It’s fun to find him, and honestly, I don’t know yet what he will be able to bring us. He hasn’t played a lot in recent years, but I know he’s great. Either you are over 2.10 meters or not, and he is”he concluded.
