Charles, thanks for joining us. Luka Doncic put on a clinic tonight, leading the Mavs to thier third straight win over the Lakers. That “Luka Magic” seems to be working overtime lately.What did you make of Doncic’s performance?
Charles Barkley: “That kid is special, there’s no doubt whatsoever about it. The way he controls the game, the passing, the scoring, it’s somthing else. That dunk he threw down early, that was a statement. He wants to win, and you can see it in his eyes. But listen, don’t count out LeBron.He’s still one of the best to ever do it. 26 points and 12 rebounds? That’s a monster night for most guys.”
I agree, LeBron is a force to be reckoned with. But even with LeBron’s near-triple-double, the lakers were still unable to overcome the Mavs. They were even down by 15 at halftime before mounting a comeback. What do you think was the key difference tonight?
Charles barkley: “Look, the Lakers have talent, but they aren’t firing on all cylinders. Westbrook struggled to find his rhythm, and when LeBron gets tired, you can see the rest of the team struggles to pick up the slack.The Mavs, on the other hand, seem to be clicking. They’re playing with confidence, and they’re feeding off Luka’s energy. “
Certainly, the Lakers’ struggles were evident. This loss puts them in a precarious ninth position, fighting for a playoff berth. Do you think they have what it takes to turn it around?
Charles Barkley: “They better figure it out speedy! The West is a gauntlet.You’ve got the Warriors, the Suns, the Grizzlies all fighting for those top spots. A ninth seed gets you in, but it’s a tough road. They need to find some consistency, some chemistry. Lakers fans are starting to get worried, and rightfully so. “
Speaking of the Warriors, they lost to the Timberwolves tonight, dropping further down in the Western Conference standings.
Charles Barkley: These Warriors, they’ve been hit hard by injuries.Losing players like Wiseman and Poole hurts. They’re definitely not the same team they were last year. but you can’t count them out. Curry’s a magician, he can still turn things around.
