Duplication in Belgrade corrects world record in show jumping

Belgrade, March 7, LETA – DPA. Sweden’s Olympic champion Armands Duplantis set the world record in show jumping at the World Indoor Tour Silver in Belgrade on Monday by jumping 6.19 meters above the bar.

The 22-year-old Swedish jumper had repeatedly tried to reach this height in the last two years.

Duplantis started the race with 5.61 meters in the first jump, and also jumped 5.85 meters and six meters high in the first attempt.

At a height of 6.19 meters, he was unsuccessful in the first two attempts, but in the third he touched the bar slightly with his knees, but it remained in place.

“I think I’ve tried to cross 6.19 meters about 50 times,” Duplantis said after a successful jump. “It’s been a long time. I’ve never had a height that has caused me so much trouble, so it’s a very good feeling.”

This is Duplant’s third world record in card jumping. All achieved indoors.

He overcame 6.17 meters in February 2020 in Torun, Poland, 6.18 meters a week later in Glasgow and 6.19 meters in Belgrade.

The jumper will return to the Serbian capital for the World Championships on March 18-20.
