Dramatic!  Kai Havertz Wins The Blues

Chelsea had to wait until the last minute of normal time to beat Newcastle United 1-0. The goal scorer is Kai Havertz.

In the Chelsea vs Newcastle match which was held at Stamford Bridge, Sunday (13/3/2022) night WIB, Havertz scored the winning goal in the 89th minute while keeping the Blues in third place in the Premier League standings with 59 points from 28 matches. They are 10 points behind Manchester City at the top and seven points from Liverpool in second.

Newcastle United is in 14th position with 31 points.

The course of the match

Chelsea immediately had a chance in the second minute when Andreas Christensen grabbed the ball in front of the penalty box and fired a shot that was still flying over the bar.

Newcastle was able to trouble Chelsea who had difficulty creating opportunities. In the 19th minute, it was Jacob Murphy’s turn to create a chance for Newcastle, but his shot went wide.

Chelsea continued to look for opportunities to score goals, but Newcastle’s tight defense was a barrier. There was one moment when Chelsea were awarded a free kick on the right side of the Newcastle defense in the 27th minute.

Mason Mount took a free kick and aimed it straight at the goal, even though it was just a sideways effort.

In the 30th minute, it was Kai Havertz’s turn to stab in from the right and try to shoot at goal, but instead went wide.

Four minutes later it was Newcastle’s turn to try to threaten through Dan Burn who headed a Matt Targett corner even though it was still sideways.

In the last minute of injury time, Newcastle almost scored a goal if MIguel Almiron’s volley from outside the penalty box was not quickly denied by Edouard Mendy while flying.

The score 0-0 closed the first half.

Newcastle immediately attacked after the break. Bruno Guimaraes got one chance in the 46th minute through a left foot volley which was still wide.

Chelsea really struggled to create clear chances because until the 70th minute they had not scored a shot on target. While Newcastle several times troublesome through the counter-attack.

In order to increase the intensity of the attack, Romelu Lukaku was played but the result was still to no avail. Chelsea’s first shot on target came in the 76th minute.

Ziyech sent a cross into the box and Havertz headed in goal, but the ball was right in Dubravka’s catch.

Havertz! The match looked set to end in a draw before the German found the net for Dubravka in the 89th minute. Mateo Kovacic’s long bait met Havertz in the penalty box.

Havertz beat Dan Burn in a duel before striking home from close range.

Chelsea in injury time almost added another goal when Havertz ran from the right side into the penalty box. He then shot the ball which was parried by Dubravka and hit the bar.

The 1-0 score lasted until the Chelsea Vs Newcastle duel was over.
