“Daugavpils Universitāte” / “Ezerzeme” (DU / “Ezerzeme”) and on Wednesday started the quarterfinals series of “Optibet” Latvian Men’s Volleyball League with their victory. DU / “Ezerzeme” defeated “Ozolnieki” in their square with 3-1 (25:10, 21:25, 25:12, 25:17).
For the benefit of the home team, Andris Širjakovs scored 14 points, rising three times in the block, but while Denis Pavlov added ten points, leaving the service line three times. Mikus Podkalns was the most productive in the ranks of Ozolnieki club with eight points.
In the second fight, “Biolars” / “Jelgava” / MSG beat “Vecumnieki” 3-1 (25:16, 25:21, 23:25, 25:19) at home. In the ranks of the winners, Sandis Vilcāns scored 25 points, standing out with four “aisles”. Dāvis Storķis scored 20 points, who scored three points from the service line, and Eduards Stieģelis scored 18 points. Andis Zadovskis scored 23 points for the guests, three of them in the block.
The second game in the series in all four quarterfinals will take place on March 5. It has already been reported that the other teams that played in the “Credit24” championship – Jēkabpils “Lūši” and RTU / “Robežsardze” / “Jūrmala” also won the first battles. The team that wins two victories enters the semi-finals. Last season, Jēkabpils “Lūši” were crowned champions, who beat the “RTU Robežsardze” / ”Jūrmala” unit 3-2 in the final series.
