Durant scores 53 in Nets victory over Knicks

NEW YORK (AP) — Kevin Durant had a career-high 53 points on the season and broke the tie in the death throes of the game with a 3-pointer, capped off a sensational display before a crowd that included Kyrie Irving, and the Brooklyn Nets beat on Sunday 110-107 to the New York Knicks.

Durant’s 3-pointer broke the tie at 103 with 56 seconds left. He made four more free throws to keep the Nets ahead and fell one point short of his career most.

Durant also dished out new assists and grabbed six rebounds in his 60th career game in which he has scored 40 points.

Irving enjoyed the recital watching the Nets’ first home game this season, but he still can’t play in New York. He has just lifted the vaccination requirement for viewers. But he still maintains the obligation to be inoculated to work. Irving has not been vaccinated.

Andre Drummond added 18 points and 10 rebounds in the Nets’ third straight win.

Julius Randle scored 26 points and Evan Fournier added 25 for the Knicks, who finished 3-4 on a road trip.
